Ballad of Hollis Brown

Hollis kills his kids
And himself. They were starving.
Better dead than poor.

Hollis Brown is a South Dakota farmer who kills himself, his wife and their children because he is ground down by poverty and can't feed his family. That's the whole song. It appeared on the album "The Times They Are a-Changing" in 1964.

Here's David Lynch doing it on one of his albums.
